May has been an emotional rollercoaster for Mets

The New York Mets (20-17) have been on an emotional rollercoaster ride of a month. The team is currently in first place in the National League East, and they have seen their star players go on the disabled list while also earning some huge victories along the way.

New York who is in the middle of a long road trip, faced three tough losses recently against the Tampa Bay Rays prior to picking up two-out-of-three victories against the Atlanta Braves. The team is in Miami to take on the Marlins for a three-game stretch starting today (Friday).

In the team’s most recent action against the Braves, the Mets saw offensive contributions from James McCann, Johneshwy Fargas and Dominic Smith who all lead the team to a 3-1 result over the Braves on Monday.

On Tuesday night Johnathan Villar and Tomas Nido highlighted the offense that was able to see the team earn a 4-3 victory over the Braves. In the finale Atlanta earned a 5-4 victory, which had sent the Mets to Miami now looking to regain their winning ways against the Marlins.

One of the many storylines that has put a damper on the team’s first place standings is the fact that so many of the team is currently on the Disabled List. One of the many stars Jacob deGrom has been rehabbing with Low-A St. Lucie, who has been out since May 11 with right side tightness. According to reports deGrom is expected to return to the team in his next start.

Somehow the team has prevailed with guys like Villar and others stepping up and contributing to the offense and the team’s winning ways. It has been such a tight race thus far in the National League East, so any time New York can earn a win that is a huge boost for the guys keeping the number one spot.

For the first of three against the Marlins tonight (Friday) it will be Marcus Stroman on the hill who will take on Jordan Holloway of the Marlins. Stroman had allowed five earned runs in his last start on Sunday. Holloway, in the five relief outings this season, has not allowed a run.

The game between the Mets and the Marlins is set for 7:10 p.m. with fans wanting to watch the action can do so by checking out the SNY Network.
