Washington Spirit set to host Gotham FC in 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup action on Tuesday

The Washington Spirit took to the fields in Washington D.C. on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, as the ladies prepare to host Gotham FC in 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup action on Tuesday, at Audi Field.

Playing in the shadows of RFK Stadium, that ladies are in the process of trying to work together the talent that they have and blend everything together. The team is hoping that they can find a winning result when they play at Audi Field against a rebranded Gotham FC.

Currently Gotham FC is on the top of the standings with a 2-0-0 record, while the Washington Spirit hold a 1-2-0 mark.

In their last match the Spirit saw a tough 1-0 loss to the Orlando Pride, while Gotham FC was able to move to the top of the Eastern Division with a victory over the North Carolina Courage recently.

One of the stars thus far for the team during Challenge Cup play has been keeper Aubrey Bledsoe, who has made some tremendous saves while in the cage for Washington. Kelly O’Hara and Emily Sonnett will be two players to watch for as the Spirit take the pitch on Tuesday.

Fans can also expect for rising rookie Trinity Rodman to be on the field as the Spirit take on Gotham FC. Rodman has provided a great energy and some tremendous play thus far for the team.

As for Gotham FC they were able to see goals from Midge Purce, Carli Lloyd and Evelyne Vines, who all helped to lead the way in the victory over the North Carolina Courage.

For the Spirit this will be their first match at Audi Field with fans, and the team is hopeful that the energy from the crowd can help uplift them as the match goes along.
