The Bridgeport Sound Tigers fall to the Providence Bruins by a final of 3- 2 in overtime action, as these two American Hockey Leagues rivals met on Wednesday.
Making 21 saves in his first appearance in more than a year for the Sound Tigers was Cory Schneider. Earlier in the day the New York Islanders had assigned Schneider to Bridgeport, and this was the first game for the keeper since March 6, 2020, when he played with the New Jersey Devils. This was also Schneider’s first AHL contest since Feb. 17, 2020 with the Binghamton Devils.
Tom Kuhnhackl tallied the first goal of the game for the Sound Tigers at the 5:14 mark of the Second Period Providence tied things up thanks to a goal by Matt Filipe, which was his second professional snipe of the season.
Bridgeport regained the lead thanks to a tally by A.J. Greer, which was his first goal of the season at the 17:55 mark of the Second Period. The Sound Tigers were able to hold on to that lead for a bit until Providence was able to tie things up in the Third Period.
It was a goal by Alex-Olivier Voyer that was able to propel the two AHL rivals into Overtime. It was during the free hockey frame that Oskar Steen was able to find the game-winner for the Bruins to help them earn the victory.
The AHL rivalries continue for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, as the guys will host the Hartford Wolf Pack on April 2 at Webster Bank Arena.
