The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Lehigh Valley Phantoms continued their AHL rivalry on Monday, with the Penguins dropping a 4-3 overtime decision at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton were able to extend their point streak to six games, but just were not able to find the game-winning goal in what was a thriller, as the Penguins were able to battle back from being down by a score of 2-0.
Getting on the board first was Lehigh Valley, as Brennan Saulnier was able to record a one-timer around the 12 minutes into the game for the first goal of the game.
Garrett Wilson was able to increase the lead to 2-0, it was around this time that the Penguins were able to find the back of the cage around 62 seconds later. Recording that first goal was Tim Schaller.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton tied things up around the 10:48 mark of the middle frame, as Josh Currie was able to net the tying goal.
Lehigh Valley was able to maintain the offensive momentum of the game, maintaining the possession of the puck. The offensive pressure eventually saw the game -winner by Ryan Fitzgerald.
Playing well in the cage for the Penguins was Shane Starrett who tallied 28 saves, while Zane McIntyre was able to stop 32 pucks for the Phantoms.
Up next for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins is a game against the Syracuse Crunch, with the face-off set for 700 p.m. The game will be played at the Upstate Medical University Arena. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will next be at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza will be against the Phantoms, with fans being able to attend the game for the first time this season. That game is set for 7:00 p.m.
