After reaching the 30-point mark for the fourth time this season against No. 3/5 Connecticut on Wednesday, Leilani Correa has earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Correa poured in a game-high 33 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the floor against the nationally-ranked Huskies last week. After scoring just six points in the first half, Correa turned it up a notch coming out the of the intermission. The Manchester, N.J., native registered 27 points over the final 20 minutes of action. The sophomore guard converted on five shots from beyond the arc, while draining all six of her attempts from the free-throw line in the Red Storm’s setback at UConn.
In addition to her scoring efforts, Correa also recorded two assists and two steals in the Johnnies’ lone game of the week.
This year, Correa has finished in double figures in 13 of the 14 games that she has played in. She has registered 20 or more points on seven occasions, including a BIG EAST-leading four 30-point efforts. Dating back to her rookie season, Correa has reached the 30-point plateau seven times over her career.
Entering the week, Correa sits second in the league in scoring with 20.9 points per game, good enough to rank 24th overall in the NCAA.
Correa and the Red Storm will return to action on Wednesday when the Johnnies welcome No. 20/21 DePaul to Carnesecca Arena for a 6:30 p.m. matchup on FS2.
