The American Hockey League Season got off to a rough start for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, who fell to the Providence Bruins in the opening game by a final of 4-1.
Bobo Carpenter was able to tally the lone goal for the Sound Tigers to keep the team in the game in the third period, but Bruins goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman was tremendous in the cage to help lead his team to victory. Swayman had many acrobatic stops making a grand total of 26 saves in a win in his professional debut.
The night had featured many great saves from Sound Tigers keeper Jakub Skarek, who also played very well, but was unable to deny Providence from long. It was at the 8:28 mark of the second period when Zach Senyshyn who found the back of the cage for Providence for the 1-0 lead.
Alex-Olivier Voyer made the lead 2-0 at the 5:18 mark of the third period, being able to score in his pro debut.
Carpenter was able to keep the Sound Tigers in the game at the 10:36 mark, that was wiped away pretty quickly thanks to a Providence goal by Samuel Asselin at the 12:37 of the third period, converting on a shorthanded opportunity.
It was all about the Bruins as they were able to maintain positive momentum of most of the game outshooting the Sound Tigers by a tally of 31-27.
Up next for Bridgeport will be a game against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the XL Center on Sunday, with start time set for 1:00 p.m.
