One day after being named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, sophomore guard Leilani Correa tabbed Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association’s Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Correa led the Red Storm in a pair of road contests, averaging 32.0 points per game last week. The Manchester, N.J., native kicked off the week with a 29-point performance on Monday at Villanova. Two days later, Correa matched a career-high with 35 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the floor, as the Red Storm picked up its second BIG EAST victory of the season at Georgetown.
In addition to her scoring efforts, Correa also averaged 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Red Storm.
This year, Correa has finished in double figures in 12 of the 13 games that she has played in. The sophomore guard has registered 20 or more points on six occasions, including a trio of 30-point efforts.
Entering the week, Correa sits second in the league in scoring with 20.0 points per game, good enough to rank 28th overall in the NCAA.
Correa and the Red Storm will return to action on Wednesday when the team travels to Storrs, Conn., for a 6:30 p.m. matchup with No. 3 Connecticut on SNY.
