The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are back on the ice as the training camp for the 2020-21 season began this week.
The AHL regular season starts on Friday, Feb 5th, and features a 24-game schedule against the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Providence Bruins in the Atlantic Division.
Here are some news and notes from Camp:
The Training Camp roster for the Sound Tigers consist of 18 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders, while featuring former Islanders Andrew Ladd and Tom Kuhnhackl.
Bridgeport returns 19 players who were involved with the Islanders and the Bridgeport organizations last season. The average age of the training camp roster is 24-and-a-half years of age.
The Sound Tigers will feature a roster of 11 newcomers, five of whom were drafted by the Islanders and who will be entering into their first season of hockey. This roster includes Samuel Bolduc (2019 second rounder, 57th overall), Felix Bibeau (2019 sixth rounder, 178th overall), Blade Jenkins (2018 fifth rounder, 134 overall) Cole Coskey (2019 seventh rounder, 209th overall) and Nick Pastujov (2016 seventh rounder, 193rd overall).
Bridgeport will also welcome some other new faces to the squad as forwards Kyle MacLean (Oshawa Generals), Brett Neumann (Oshawa Generals), Adam Brubacher (Rochester Institute of Technology) and goaltender Francis Marotte (Clarkson University).
The Sound Tigers will be looking forward to seeing A.J. Greer, who was acquired on October 12 by the organization in a trade between the Islanders and the Colorado Avalanche. Greer offers some great experience to the team, after spending the last four years playing between the Avalanche and their former AHL affiliate the San Antonio Rampage.
The AHL season will feature 28 teams that will be competing this season. As the Sound Tigers will be participating in the Atlantic Division. Bridgeport will have a chance to play against the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Providence Bruins a total of 12 times each this season.
Bridgeport will have a very long homestand at Webster Bank Arena from Feb 13-19, with three games as they will host Providence, Harford and then Providence.
