Capitals win 3-2 Thriller over Islanders

The Washington Capitals were able to skate hard and found themselves on the side of a 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders in NHL action on Tuesday night.

Washington was able to take an early lead thanks to a goal from John Carlson at the 11:06 mark, but that was quickly erased by an Islanders tally by Noah Dobson around the 15:33 mark.

Things were fast and furious between these two teams, and the fast paced scoring continued in the Second Period when Mathew Barzal recorded a goal at the 10:01 mark, that gave the Islanders a 2-1 edge.

Daniel Sprong responded with a beautiful wrist shot at the 17:21 mark to make things all even up again. For Sprong the goal was the first of the season.

Both teams played some outstanding defense, and thanks to some beautiful passing it was the Capitals that were able to get the game-winning goal thanks to a low-stick side goal by Justin Schultz.

Overall the Capitals had a 37-34 edge over the Islanders in shots on goal, but it was New York that held the edge in hits by a tally of 18-14.

Both keepers had some outstanding plays as Vitek Vanecek made 32 saves for the Capitals, while Semyon Varlamov made 34 saves in the cage for the Islanders.

The Capitals and the Islanders will both have a day off before taking each other on in a game on Thursday (January 28) which is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
