Capitals Suffer OT loss to Islanders 2-1

The Washington Capitals are on the verge of elimination as they suffered a tough 2-1 overtime loss to the New York Islanders in NHL action today (Sunday). Washington was able to play a better game overall against New York, but still could not put together a full game.

Playing a brilliant game in the loss for the Capitals was goalkeeper Braden Holtby, who made 32 saves during the course of the game. New York was just able to execute on a brilliant play on offense as Mathew Barzal was able to score a goal after the Caps were denied of a great opportunity.

It is going to be really tough for the Washington Capitals, who somehow, someway are going to have to play some stellar hockey from this point forward if they want a chance at seeing Lord Stanley’s Cup this season.

One of the things that Washington is going to hope to improve upon in their next game is scoring with even strength numbers on the ice, as none of the forwards were able to create opportunities early on in the game.

Scoring for the Capitals was Evgeny Kuznetsov, who ripped one to tie things up at 1 around the 5:50 mark of the second period.

New York was able to create some great chances, forcing things to go into overtime and gaining the eventual game winner to get them so much closer to that next spot in the NHL Playoffs.

It all comes down to Tuesday Night as the Capitals are just going to focus on the one game to see if they can get back into this series. The game between Washington and New York is set to start at 8:00 p.m.
