Baltimore Orioles Bolster Roster by Signing Thomas Eshelman

The Baltimore Orioles continue to make some impressive moves for the 2021 season by adding to their pitching staff by adding Thomas Eshelman to a Minor League Contract. This includes an invitation to Spring Training.
Eshelman, holds a 4-3 record with a 5.22 ERA for the Orioles in the past two seasons, across eight starts and in 14 appearances. The 26-year-old became a Minor League free agent after he was designated for assignment in December.

Thomas is a former second-round Draft pick of the Houston Astros in 2015, Eshelman debuted for the Orioles in 2019, and appeared to take a step forward in ’20, having a 3-1 record with a 3.89 ERA in 12 appearances (four starts). Eshelman was able to provide some stellar innings in the place of John Means, when he had gone on a family-related leave of absence and then also filled in when Wade LeBlanc suffered a season-ending left elbow injury.

Eshelman was able to prove that he can enter the middle of the game and pitching quality innings to the Orioles, which will be huge as the team enters into the 2021 season.

Thus far the plan for the Orioles is to rely on their young arms during the MLB season. Baltimore is looking to protect their young prospects like Keegan Akin and Dean Kremer by adding a guy like Eshelman to the pitching rotation.

There are lots more moves for the Orioles to make as they are going to be one of the many teams playing competitive baseball in 2021.
