The St. John’s Women’s Basketball team will look to get back in the win column on Sunday when it welcomes Marquette to Carnesecca Arena for an afternoon showdown.

The contest between the Red Storm (4-6, 1-4 BIG EAST) and the Golden Eagles (6-2, 3-1 BIG EAST) will be broadcast live on FS1 with John Fanta and Kim Adams on the call from Queens.

The Johnnies will look to rebound from their recent road loss to No. 19/22 DePaul on Wednesday.

On the team’s most recent trip to Chicago, Qadashah Hoppie and Kadaja Bailey both put forth career-high performances. Hoppie tallied a career-best 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor, including a 6-of-9 mark from beyond the arc. The Staten Island native has reached double figures in all six games that she has played this year, including a trio of 20-point performances. Hoppie, the conferences’ active leading scorer, has eclipsed the 20-point plateau a total of 17 times over her Red Storm career.

Bailey, a product of Long Beach, N.Y., reached the 20-point mark for the first time in her collegiate career, finishing with 22 points and a team-best eight rebounds against the nationally ranked Blue Demons. The junior guard also recorded two blocks and two steals.

In the Red Storm’s recent setback to DePaul, the Johnnies recorded a combined eight blocks, bumping their season total to a league-best 60. As a team, St. John’s also ranks 12th overall in the NCAA with 6.0 rejections per game.

St. John’s and Marquette (6-2, 3-1 BIG EAST) will meet for the second time this year on Sunday afternoon, a little over a month after the Red Storm fell to the Golden Eagles, 66-62, at the Al McGuire Center. In that contest Leilani Correa recorded a game-high 31 points, for her second 30-plus point performance of the season and the fifth of her Red Storm career.

The Golden Eagles are led by senior guard Selena Lott, who paces the team with 15.9 points per game. The Troy, N.Y., product is shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and 45.7 percent from beyond the arc this season. Lott excelled against the Johnnies in the teams’ first meeting, as she recorded 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor.

As a team, the Golden Eagles have crashed the glass well this season. They sit second overall in the BIG EAST in rebounding offense (42.0), rebounding defense (31.5) and rebounding margin (+10.5). Despite their ability to rebound, the Johnnies won the battle of the boards, 37-33, against the Golden Eagles in the two teams first outing this year.

The Red Storm will look to snap a five-game losing streak against its BIG EAST foe on Sunday as the Johnnies are in search of their first win over Marquette since the 2018-19 season. The Red Storm’s last win over the Golden Eagles came in thrilling fashion, as the Johnnies upset then-no. 8/7 Marquette, 81-74, at Carnesecca Arena.

Following Sunday’s contest with Marquette, the Red Storm will travel to South Orange, N.J. for a midweek matchup with Seton Hall on Jan. 20.
