Coming off its first BIG EAST victory over Butler on Saturday, the St. John’s Women’s Basketball team will travel to The Windy City for its toughest test to date this season, taking on No. 19/22 DePaul on Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena.

The Johnnies will make their first national television appearance on Wednesday, as the contest will be broadcast live on FS1 with Michelle Wenzel and Bob Brainerd on the call from Chicago. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. ET.

The Red Storm (4-5, 1-3 BIG EAST) enters this matchup with the nationally ranked Blue Demons on the heels of back-to-back come-from-behind victories over St. Bonaventure and BIG EAST foe Butler.

In the Johnnies most recent win over the Bulldogs on Saturday, Leilani Correa led the way with her second double-double in as many games, and the third of her Red Storm career. The Manchester, N.J., native recorded a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds, for her fourth 20-plus point performance of the season. For her efforts, Correa earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season. The 6-foot guard is averaging a team-high 15.5 points and 10.0 rebounds over her last two games.

Senior guard Qadashah Hoppie played a key component in the Johnnies’ last two victories, as the Staten Island native averaged 14.5 points per game, knocking down all seven of her attempts from the charity stripe. Hoppie also grabbed 2.5 rebounds and dished out 2.0 assists over the two-game stretch.

Wednesday will mark the 27th all-time meeting between St. John’s and DePaul (6-3, 3-1 BIG EAST), with the Blue Demons leading the series, 21-5. The Red Storm’s last win over DePaul came during the 2016 BIG EAST Semifinals, as the Johnnies defeated the top-seeded Blue Demons on their home floor en route to the program’s first conference title in 28 years.

Last season, Hoppie led the Red Storm in the series with DePaul, averaging a team-high 23.5 points per game. In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Hoppie netted a career-best 27 points on an 8-of-17 shooting from the floor. The Blue Demons struggled to contain Hoppie on the perimeter, as she drained seven triples in that game.

The Blue Demons, who were was picked second in the 2020-21 BIG EAST Preseason Poll, are currently boasting a record of 6-3, including a 3-1 mark in BIG EAST action to sit third overall in the conference standings.

DePaul sits second in the league in scoring offense, averaging 84.9 points per game, and rank first in the league in steals with 11.1 per game.
