Holmes’ Stellar Game Earns A-10 Player of the Week; Hall Secures Rookie Honors

The Atlantic 10 Conference has named St. Bonaventure junior Jaren Holmes A-10 Player of the Week. Saint Joseph’s freshman Jordan Hall was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 4-10.

Holmes had 38 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists against Saint Joseph’s in the Bonnies only game of the week. The guard from Romulus, Mich., shot 14-of-22 (.636) from the floor and 8-of-12 (.667) from 3-point range. He set Atlantic 10 season highs in points, field goals made (14) and 3-pointers made (8) in the outing with totals. The 38 points from Holmes ranks tied for eighth all-time in Bonnies single-game scoring efforts inside the Reilly Center, tying Bob Lanier’s effort versus Fairfield in 1969.

A guard from Wildwood, N.J., Hall averaged 11 points, 7.0 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game in helping the Hawks go 1-1 on the week. At St. Bonaventure, he finished with a season-best 10 rebounds and added nine points and five assists. Hall followed that with 13 points, nine assists and four rebounds, helping lead the Hawks to a key victory over Albany Saturday.

Davidson’s Kellan Grady averaged 20.0 points per game, including a 27-point performance on 11-for-18 (.611) shooting versus Dayton … Jalen Crutcher tallied 29 points on 11-of-17 (.647) shooting with three assists in the Flyers’ road win over Davidson, leading to a 21.5 points per game scoring average for the week … Dayton freshman Mustapha Amzil was 7-of-11 (.636) from the field and 4-of-8 (.500) from long range to average 11.0 points per game for the Flyers … Fordham’s Chris Austin scored 20 points on 6-of-10 (.600) from the field while swishing 5-of-9 (.556) from 3-point range to lead the Rams past Dayton … George Mason’s A.J. Wilson registered 28 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks in a pair of games for the Patriots … Noah Fernandes had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a strong performance that helped lead Massachusetts past La Salle … UMass freshman Cairo McCrory tallied 15 points on 6-of-8 (.750) shooting with seven rebounds and a block in the victory over the Explorers … Rhode Island’s Fatts Russell averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game with four assists and four steals in a split week for the Rams … Jacob Gilyard was a force in leading Richmond to two wins, averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 assists and 5.0 steals all while shooting .563 (9-of-15) from 3-point range … Taylor Funk averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists for Saint Joseph’s, including 14 points in the Hawks’ win over Albany.
