It had been Nine long months since the Fordham University Men’s Basketball team was on a Basketball Court, and the Season Opener showed as the Rams looked rusty in the 71-47 loss to George Washington on Wednesday.
Leading the way for Fordham on the offensive side of the court was Josh Colon who had 14 points, followed by Joel Soriano followed with 12 points and Ty Perry rounded all scoring with seven points.
Fordham was able to show some glimpse of the team that they can be during the 2021 season, thanks to some stellar defensive play which led to some amazing offense.
The Rams also showed that they were able to change the pace of play and make some adjustments to the game, but at the end of the game it was George Washington, who was clicking on all cylinders who was able to gain the victory.
Leading the way for the Colonials was Jamison Battle who had 24 points, Battle was followed by James Bishop who had 23 and Sloan Seymour rounded out the scoring with his 11 points.
George Washington had themselves a stellar performance with their shot selection. The Colonials went 25-for-50 from the field (50%) and 9-for-19 from beyond the arc.
The Colonials now lead the all-time series, which started in the 1914-15 season by a tally of 29-10.
Fordham was able to give the Colonials, who have had a tough time of holding leads thus far this season a bit of a scare to start the Second Half of play, as the Rams had a 5-0 run that helped them to cut into the George Washington lead.
At the end of the day though the Colonials offense was too potent and was able to pick up a huge victory over the Rams at Rose Hill Gym.
Fordham will now hit the road to take on La Salle University on January 2, with the start time scheduled for 2:00 p.m. As for George Washington they will also return back to action on January 2, when they play host to Duquesne at 12: 30 p.m.
