The BIG EAST has announced a series of changes to its opening night schedule resulting from COVID related concerns within some of the league’s programs.
Originally scheduled to welcome Connecticut back into the BIG EAST on Friday in Storrs, St. John’s will now kick off its league slate on Friday against Seton Hall at the Prudential Center. The Red Storm and the Pirates will tip at 4:30 p.m. in Newark and the game will be broadcast live nationally on CBS Sports Network.
The longtime local rivals, who have met 103 times since 1909, both found openings on their Friday schedule after their originally assigned opponents were put on pause due to COVID issues within their programs. UConn announced on Sunday that it would be going on a hiatus for the second time this season. Seton Hall was set to open against DePaul, but the Blue Demons suffered a setback prior to their game against Iowa State on Sunday.
St. John’s leads the all-time series with Seton Hall 60-43, including a 35-34 edge in BIG EAST play.
