Mexico Defeats Puerto Rico 81-56 in FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying

In the Second Half of the 2020 AmeriCup Qualifying Group D tournament, Mexico was able to defeat Puerto Rico by a final of 81-56 on Sunday evening at the Convention Center in Indianapolis,, Indiana. Both teams played a great brand of basketball, but in the end it was Mexico that was able to come out on top.

Mexico was able to shoot 56% from the field along with playing some outstanding defense, while also establishing their dominance on the boards.  Up next for team Mexico will be the USA team, who defeated the Bahamas by a score of 99-59 in the  First Half of the AmeriCup Qualifying action.

Leading the way in scoring for Mexico was Lucas Martinez, who recorded 18 points in the game. Martinez had himself a tremendous shooting night, hitting from all points of the floor, including four three-pointers. Also shooting well for Mexico was Paul Stoll who recorded 14 points and Gabriel Villarreal who had 13 points.

For Puerto Rico they were led by Ivan Gandia who recorded 23 points and Emmanuel Andujar who had 10 points. The only stat that Puerto Rico had an edge on Mexico was the Free Throws taken. the team also did fairly well in dishing the ball around recording 12 assist.

The schedule for the 2020 AmeriCup Qualifying Group D games will have Puerto Rico taking on the Bahamas around 4pm and USA vs Mexico around 7:30 p.m.
