Giants off to a rough start; 0-2 start, injuries and more

The New York Football Giants, once again, begin the 2020 NFL season losing the first two games for the 4th year in a row. They dropped a loss Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-16, where their star running back Saquon Barkley rushed 15 times for only 6 yards. This past Sunday, they lost a close outing to the Chicago Bears 17-13. As if the loss wasn’t enough, Barkley was injured in what was revealed later to be a torn ACL, keeping him out for the remainder of the season. It seems that the Giants just really can’t catch a break.

It has been a rocky road for the Giants since they last made the playoffs in 2016. Their combined record in the last 3 years is 12-36, adding 2 loses if you want to count this season. With the new playoff format that was placed in the NFL, no team is technically out of the playoff race this early in the season. The Giants are still looking to take a shot at making the playoffs, as every team does respectfully so. Recent reports state that New York is looking to sign 2x Pro Bowl running back Devonta Freeman to replace the injured Barkley. This is a step in the right direction, as Freeman still has some juice left in him, as he is a threat in not only in the running game but the passing game as well.

The G-Men should still have faith in their 2nd year quarterback, Daniel Jones. So far, Jones has thrown for 520 yards, 2TD, and 3INT with a total QBR of 50.7, in the first two games of the season. He is ranked 24 out of 33 quarterbacks that have played thus far this season. Some people may criticize Jones and blame him for the Giants’ woes, but it isn’t really his fault as much as people think. Jones has been already been sacked 7 times in the last two games, which is the 2nd most in the league. The offensive line hasn’t been in synch and has made it difficult for Jones to perform at his highest potential. For someone who always has to rush throws and scramble in the pocket, he really isn’t doing all that bad. Giants fans should have some faith in their QB, as Danny Dimes finished with a higher total QBR than Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady last season. The potential is there for the 23- year- old Daniel Jones. This season might not turn out the way they’d like, but they at least have another franchise QB.

Up next for the Giants will be a tough test against the San Francisco 49ers on a game to be played on 9/27.
