It was all about heart for the New York Mets (23-27) who came back from a multi-run deficit to earn a 10-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies (24-25) in Major League Baseball action on Thursday. New York is going to need all the wins they can get right now if they want any hopes for a spot in this years Major League Baseball Playoff hunt, and the win on Thursday was probably one of their biggest.
Showing a never say die spirit, the guys were able to lift themselves up on the offensive side of things and now sit just 1 1/2 game of a National League Playoff spot. Things started out rough for the Mets as starter Jacob deGrom lasted only two innings due to a minor injury, Coming in to attempt to save the day was Seth Lugo, who sadly was roughed up thanks to homers by Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm and Didi Gregorius in the first..
New York though decided to show that they have plenty of fight left in them in the Sixth Inning, starting with a rally by Brandon Nimmo, who helped to tie the game with a two-run triple. Brandon, followed that up with a 387 foot homer in the Ninth Inning that assisted in keeping the team’s playoff hopes alive.
The Mets now have 10 games left to see where they can wind up in a very tough National League Pennant Race. This team will have to keep fighting and taking it one inning and one game at a time if they hope to compete and even try for the Championship this season. With the resilience and fight that they showed on Thursday night, they will be one of the many teams to watch for as the 2020 Major League Baseball season winds down.
It’ll be a tough test for the team as they have a three-game stretch against the Atlanta Braves starting on Friday. New York will be sending Steve Matz (0-4, 8.63 ERA) to the mound to take on Max Fried (6-0, 1.98 ERA). The game between the Mets and the Braves is set to start at 7:10 p.m. with the action airing on the SNY Network.
