The New York Liberty (2-15) were outlasted by the Atlanta Dream (5-13) 62-56 on Thursday evening, losing a defensive showdown that saw 9 lead changes.
Liberty rookie forward Kylee Shook left the second quarter with a sprained ankle.
New York shot 26.0% from the field and 17.1% from beyond the arc.
The Liberty had a season-high 47 rebounds, which is the second-most rebounds a team has grabbed in a single game this season (Atlanta holds the league high from tonight’s performance with 49).
New York added 10 assists and 25 bench points, and scored a season-low 56 points, while also holding Atlanta to a season-low 62 points.
Key Runs:
Back-to-back threes awakened a 6-2 Liberty run to begin the game. New York extended its lead to 14-6 before an Atlanta timeout with 5:34 remaining thanks to 50% (5-10) shooting from beyond the arc and 60% (3-5) shooting from the field.
A 10-4 Dream run to end the first quarter cut the Liberty’s lead to only three going into the second quarter. Atlanta shot 100% (6-6) from the charity stripe in the first quarter.
Atlanta outscored New York 13-8 in the second quarter and went into the locker room up 31-29. The Liberty’s 8 points in the second quarter is a 2020 season-low.
Atlanta went up by as many as 6 points in the third quarter. New York cut the deficit to only three. The Dream outscored New York 17-16 in the third and ended the quarter up 48-45.
The Dream outscored the Liberty 14-11 in the final frame of action to solidify the team’s 5th victory of the season.

Leaonna Odom scored a career-high 12 points, shooting 44.4% (4-9) from the field in 19:23 minutes.
Kia Nurse also scored a team-high 12 points, while adding four rebounds on the night.
Paris Kea recorded a career-high 8 rebounds in her second career start. Kea also added 8 points.
Jazmine Jones added 8 points and 3 rebounds off the bench across 15:02 minutes.
Amanda Zahui B recorded her fifth consecutive game with 10+ rebounds, which ties the Liberty franchise record set by Tina Charles in 2016. Zahui finished with 11 boards, 5 points, 3 assists and 2 steals.
Joyner Holmes grabbed a career-high 6 rebounds in the contest.
Courtney Williams recorded a game-high double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead Atlanta to victory.
Betnijah Laney totaled 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists for the Dream.
