VIDEO: New York Mets Manager Luis Rojas along with stars Dellin Betances and Robert Gsellman share these thoughts after the team’s 2-1 loss to the New York Yankees in MLB action on 8/29
It was a wild game for the New York Mets (15-17) who took a tough 2-1 loss to the New York Yankees (17-13) in Major League Baseball action on Saturday. A wild pitch from Dellin Betances in the bottom of the Ninth Inning to lead the team to probably one of their toughest losses thus far of this 60-game season.
The Mets and Yankees had battled back in forth in what was a thriller of a game. With the Yankees opening up the offense in the bottom of the First Inning thanks to a homer by Luke Voit. Wilson Ramos helped the boys in Blue and Orange fight back into to the game in the top of the Eighth Inning with a homer of his own, as these two rivals were tied up at one.
With runners on base the Yankees looked way more aggressive and tried to cash in with runners in scoring position by bunting Erik Kratz, the offensive pressure was too much for Betances to handle and one of the pitches went wild, giving the Yankees a 2-1 victory.
Betances has been struggling with a lower velocity this season, after dealing with a torn left Achilles tendon injury during the 2019 season. The righty who at one point in time had a 98 mph pitch during the 2016 season, had seen his velocity drop to 93 mph this season. It’ll be interesting to see if the reliever can make adjustments to his pitches and or add some new pitches to his mix, so that he can continue to be a success in the pen for the Mets for a very long time.
At the end of the day it is a really tough loss for the Mets, who are riding this roller coaster of a season to the best of their abilities. The 2020 edition of the Subway Series ends with a doubleheader against the Yankees on Sunday. Taking the mound for the boys in Blue and Orange in Game 1 is Rick Porcello (1-4, 6.43 ERA) who is set to take on a pitcher to be named for the Yankees.
