The New York Liberty (1-11) continue to see improvements in various aspects of their game, but so far just unable to get a winning result. The latest tough loss was a 101-85 decision to the Chicago Sky (9-4) in WNBA action on Thursday night.
For Head Coach Walt Hopkins and the rest of the squad it has got to be like sitting and looking at a unfinished puzzle and trying to figure out what pieces to put where. The team as a whole are really impressed with the performances that they have gotten lately, as the team as a whole have shown that they are a tough team to play this season.
The Liberty have been able to see the evolution of all of their rookies so far and have played without their Number One Draft Pick Sabrina Ionescu, who is currently rehabbing from an injury to her ankle.
Here are some other interesting notes from the game:
The Liberty’s 85 points were the most scored in a game in this season.
New York shot 43.5% (30-69) from the field, which is their second-best percentage of the season.
The team also shot 95.7% (22-23) from the line, which ties their season-high.
The Liberty grabbed 35 rebounds, dished 15 assists and had 26 points from the bench.
With 35 total boards, New York outrebounded Chicago by 5.
The Liberty went on a 5-0 run midway through the first quarter, outscoring Chicago 11-6.
The Sky opened the second quarter on a 10-6 run to extend their 2-point lead to 6. Chicago continued to outscore New York 34-23 before heading into the locker room up 13.
Both teams traded baskets to begin the second half, each scoring 13 points with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter. Chicago outscored New York 24-23 in the third quarter.
Chicago opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run, extending its lead to 20 points with more than 8 minutes remaining in the contest.
New York’s 7-0 run with 5:37 remaining cut Chicago’s 20-point lead back down to 13.
The Sky closed out the final frame 20-18 over the Liberty.

Jazmine Jones scored 13 first-half points and finished the contest with a team-high 18 points on 50.0% (7-14) shooting from the field. Tonight was her fifth consecutive game in double-digit scoring figures. Jones also added 4 boards, 3 steals and 2 assists.
Kia Nurse totaled 17 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Nurse also had a season-high 7 rebounds and shot a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.
Kiah Stokes recorded a season-high 14 points on 50.0% (6-12) shooting from the field. Stokes also grabbed 9 rebounds, just one shy of a double-double.
Stokes scored 6 of the team’s first 11 points, while Jones scored the remaining 5 points of the Liberty’s 11.
In Layshia Clarendon’s 100th career start, they scored 12 points and finished with 5 assists and 3 rebounds.
Amanda Zahui B tallied 11 points, shooting a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc, and grabbed 5 boards on the night.
Kylee Shook added 6 points and 4 rebounds off the bench.
Azurá Stevens led the Chicago offense with a game-high 25 points.
Courtney Vandersloot and Allie Quigley both totaled 19 points against New York, and Vandersloot recorded a double-double behind 10 assists.
