VIDEO: New York Mets Manager Luis Rojas along with stars Jacob deGrom, Edwin Díaz and Michael Conforto share these thoughts after the team’s 5-3 victory over the Miami Marlins in MLB action on 8/19
The New York Mets (12-14) engine is starting to fire on all cylinders as the team as won three in a row against the Miami Marlins (9-9). The latest victory for the boys in blue and orange was a 5-3 victory over the Marlins on Wednesday night.
In the game on Wednesday the team got to see what they can do when they combined great pitching with a great offense, as they saw two-time defending National League Cy Young Award Winner Jacob deGrom go six innings, striking out seven batters and giving up only four hits against a very good Marlins team.
The start by deGrom was backed by the Mets bats, who are getting into a bit more of a rhythm when it comes time for finding those run driving hits that equal to winning ballgames. Leading the way on the offensive side of the field was Michael Conforto who blasted two homers. Dominic Smith recorded a double and Luis Guillorme and Brandon Nimmo both recorded singles in the game.
Now New York will have a chance to go for a sweep in the finale against the Marlins today (Thursday), as the Mets will have Seth Lugo (1-2, 2.61 ERA) taking on Daniel Castano (0-1, 4.35 ERA). It has been a long time since Lugo has taken the ball as a starting pitcher, as he has been mainly in the closing position. The last time Seth was able to make a start was on June 25, 2018. Lugo has some experience as a starter, making 31 career starts, but he hasn’t thrown more than 19 pitches in a game since July 27th.
For Castano, he will be facing the Mets for the second time. In his MLB Debut on August 8, he gave up five runs and two homers in 4 2/3 innings. Looking to continue their fine hitting against Castano will be Conforto and Pete Alonso who have both recorded home runs.
The finale between the Mets and the Marlins is set to start at 6:10 p.m. with the action airing on the SNY Network.
