Liberty Look to Continue Development with a Test against the Chicago Sky

It is going to be a developmental season for the New York Liberty (1-10) as they hope to get their rookies as well as a completely new system in place for the 2021 system and beyond. The evolution of the team continues with a test against the Chicago Sky (8-4) in Thursday Night WNBA action.

Here are some interesting notes to get fans ready for the game:

The Liberty are coming off a 105-64 loss to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, August 18.

Kia Nurse broke out of her recent shooting slump and had her best game of the 2020 season. She finished with a game-high 21 points, and shot 50% from the field (6-12) and beyond the arc (4-8).

Jazmine Jones recorded her fourth consecutive game in double-digit scoring figures with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

Amanda Zahui B also totaled 10 points including 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Paris Kea scored her first basket in seafoam with 8:04 remaining in the contest. Kea finished with 4 points in her debut for New York.

New York shot 32.8% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc. The Liberty totaled 37 rebounds, 12 assists and 24 bench points.

The Sky are entering Thursday’s game with a two-game winning streak. On August 18, Chicago edged the Las Vegas Aces 84-82.

Kahleah Copper led the Sky’s offense with a game-high 18 points. Courtney Vandersloot recorded a double-double of 15 points and assists, which tied her career-high in assists.

Chicago’s offense ranks in the top five across multiple offensive categories including fifth in points per game (85.9), fifth in rebounds per game (34.2), second in assists per game (21.5), second in blocks per game (4.3) and third in total three pointers made (90).

Thursday night marks the first meeting between New York and Chicago in 2020. The only other team the Liberty have not yet played in the ‘Bubble’ is the Connecticut Sun, who they’ll matchup against this upcoming Saturday.

In 2019, the Sky swept the Liberty in the team’s three meetings. Despite the losses, New York averaged 86.0 points per game in the Chicago series.

The New York Liberty have an overall recorded against the Sky of 26-27 (.490).

MILESTONES TO WATCH FOR:

Amanda Zahui B – Currently has 875 career points, and 247 two-point field goals made.
Layshia Clarendon – Needs 4 two-point field goals made to eclipse 500 total (495).
Kia Nurse – Currently sits at 885 total career points.
