VIDEO: New York Mets Manager Luis Rojas along with stars David Peterson, Tomas Nido, and Dominic Smith share these thoughts from the team’s 8-2 victory over the Washington Nationals in MLB action at Citi Field on 8/13
The New York Mets (9-11) bats are starting to come to life as Tomás Nido and the rest of the offense were able to blast their way by a score of 8-2 against the Washington Nationals (6-9) in Major League Baseball action at Citi Field on Thursday.
Nido had himself a career day at the dish having mutliple homers and six-RBI’s in the game. New York was also able to see some huge contributions from Dominic Smith and Pete Alonso as the bats are starting to look the way the fans were hoping they would look prior to the start of the 2020 season.
All of this run support came behind starter David Peterson (3-1) who continues to show Mets management why he is going to be a future star in the rotation for the franchise. Peterson worked five innings, striking out three batters and only giving up one run in a great outing for the team.
During the course of the game outfielder Jeff McNeil injured his knee after making a run-saving catch and had to be taken off the field. There has been no updates on McNeil as of yet.
It is days like today that can be so clutch to a team and their momentum, with the Mets bats possibly waking up now they can show why they can be a really tough team in the National League this season.
The guys will now travel to Philadelphia where they will take on the Phillies in a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park starting on Friday. New York will look to continue their fine showing on the mound as righty Jacob deGrom (2-0, 2.45 ERA) gets the nod. The Phillies have not announced their starter as of yet. For deGrom in his last outing gave up only two runs in five innings pitched and looks to build upon that performance.
The game between the Mets and the Phillies is scheduled to start at 7:05 pm. with the game airing on the SNY Network.
