New York Liberty Look to Continue to Show Grit in Tough Test vs Fever

The New York Liberty (1-7) have shown that they are going to be a tough team to face in this 2020 WNBA Season, and they look to continue to develop, evolve and get some positive results in a test against the Indiana Fever on (3-4) on Thursday.

Here are some interesting notes:

The Liberty are coming off a 93-78 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks late Tuesday night.

LA went up as much as 21 points, however, New York rallied in the second half to force the game into a single-digit deficit late in the third quarter.

New York’s offense was led by another career-high performance from rookie Jazmine Jones. Jones posted a game-high 24 points (8-16 FG), as well as 5 steals.

Layshia Clarendon continued their consistent scoring streak with 11 points and 5 assists.

Amanda Zahui B and Kia Nurse each added 9 points apiece, while Zahui B grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

New York recorded season-highs in steals (10) and free-throw percentage (95.7%) in the contest.

The Indiana Fever are also coming off a Tuesday night loss, falling to the Las Vegas Aces, 98-79.

Candice Dupree was Indiana’s leading scorer with 20 points. Tiffany Mitchell added 14 points, while Teaira McCowan and Kelsey Mitchell finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Both teams sit atop the WNBA’s leaderboard in free throw percentage, with Indiana leading the league at 82.9%, and New York in third with an average 82.5%.

In 2019, the Indiana Fever won the season series, securing wins in 3 of the 4 total matchups.

Despite dropping three contests to the Fever, New York averaged 80 points per game in the 2019 series.

Since 2000, the Liberty’s 30-45 record against the Indiana Fever marks the team’s lowest winning percentage against a WNBA franchise (.400).

The game between the Liberty and Fever is set to tip at 6:00 p.m. with the game to be aired on the YES Network.
