Mets Power Past Marlins 8-4

VIDEO: New York Mets Manager Luis Rojas along with stars Michael Conforto, J.D. Davis and David Peterson share these thoughts from a 8-4 victory over the Miami Marlins on 8/8 at Citi Field.

The New York Mets (6-9) were able to use the home run ball to power their way past the Miami Marlins (7-2) by a final score of 8-4 in Major League Baseball Action on Saturday. Leading the way on the offense for New York was J.D. Davis who crushed a three-run shot in the Bottom of the Seventh, as this potent Mets offense started to finally shine.

Davis continues his hot hitting streak as he now sits at a career-high 12 game streak.

Also recording homers in the game was Michael Conforto and Pete Alonso as the offense was able to back-up a fine pitching performance by David Peterson, who impressed in his Citi Field debut.

Peterson recorded five strong innings for New York striking out three batters. The bullpen did a solid job keeping the Marlins off the board, but needed the extra blast from Davis to help lead them to the victory on this night. New York has been trying to figure how how to play Davis, who has really impressed with both his bat and outfield play thus far with the team.

The good news for Luis Rojas is the fact that there is the new  designated hitter rule in play for this shortened Major League Baseball season, and that will allow for the Mets Manager to tinker with his lineup as he sees fit.

New York will now wrap up this series against the Marlins on Sunday (tomorrow) as they will send righty Jacob deGrom (1-0, 2.12 ERA) to take on Marlins righty Pablo López (1-0). deGrom holds a 5-1 record against the Marlins, to go along with a 2.37 ERA and striking out 46 batters. For Lopez he was able to match his career high with seven strikeouts in his last start against the Baltimore Orioles.

The game between the Mets and the Marlins is set for 1:10 p.m. and fans can catch all the action from home on the SNY Network.
