Having fun is going to be a key for the New York Liberty (1-5) as they progress through the 2020 WNBA Season. After the team’s first victory against the Washington Mystics, Layshia Clarendon had told the media that she and the team are just hoping to have fun and that will be a huge part to the team having any success this season. The ladies as a whole will look to continue to evolve, grow and have fun as they take on the ultra tough Las Vegas Aces (4-2) in Sunday hoops action in Florida.
Here are some interesting notes for fans to check out for the game against the Aces:
New York’s offense caught fire from beyond the arc, and five players knocked down shots from deep. The team drained 12 total three-pointers on the night (37.5%), which are both season highs.
Kia Nurse led the team in scoring with 17 points on the night, which marks her second time this season finishing with a team-high 17 points.
Clarendon and Amanda Zahui B both added 14 points with 4 three-pointers apiece.
Both players set career-highs in Friday’s win over Washington. Amanda grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, while Layshia’s 4 three-point field goals surpassed their career-high of 3.
Zahui B also recorded her 100th career block, making her the 106th player to do so in WNBA history. After starting the season 1-2, Las Vegas is entering Sunday’s contest riding a three-game winning streak.
In their most recent game on Friday night, Vegas outlasted the Los Angeles Sparks in a close game, 86-82.
The Aces’ offense was led by the strong efforts of A’ja Wilson and Angel ,McCoughtery who posted 26 and 24 points, respectively. Vegas shot an even 50% (34-68) from the field and 57.1% (4-7) from beyond the arc against the Sparks.
In 2019, after winning the first game of the season series, New York dropped the last two contests of to Las Vegas.
Dating back to the former Utah Starzz and San Antonio Silver Stars eras, New York has an overall record of 26-23 (.530) against the Las Vegas Aces franchise.
