Orioles Break Out Bats in 11-0 Victory over Nationals

The Baltimore Orioles (6-7) were able to regain their offensive momentum in a big way in a 11-0 victory over the reigning World Series Champions the Washington Nationals (4-6) in Major League Baseball action on Friday night at Nationals Park.

Baltimore had themselves a wonderful pitching performance from lefty Tommy Milone (1-1), who worked six innings giving up three runs and striking out three batters. Milone was mixing his pitches really well in the game against the Nationals as he kept the Washington bats off balance for most of the night.

José Iglesias had a career high four hits in the game, as the veteran has proven himself to be not only stabilizing factor for a very young Orioles team, but also one of the better hitters so far in the American League. Thus far the infielder holds a  .455 average with 15 hits. The team as a whole impressed at the plate recoding a season-high 19 hits and 11 runs.

In addition to the tremendous night from Iglesias, the Orioles were able to see some great hitting by Austin Hays who recorded a single in the Top of the Second Inning. The Top of the Sixth saw a monster of a homer by Renato Núñez to go along with a double by Pedro Severino.

The team continues to make some really impressive moves in adding some great prospects for the future. On Friday the Orioles added No. 6 prospect Gunnar Henderson to their 60-man player pool. Henderson will be sent to the team’s alternate training site located in Bowie, Maryland.

Henderson was the Number 42 overall pick in the 2019 Draft and was likely to be playing in short-season Aberdeen this season. Thus far in the first professional season in rookie ball the infielder holds a .259 average having played 29 games  and recording 28 hits during that time.

The three-game series against the Nationals continues today (Saturday) as the Orioles will send righty Thomas Eshelman (0-0, 2.70 ERA) to take on Nationals righty Austin Voth (0-1, 3.60 ERA). Eshelman who will be making the first start of the season for the Orioles. Voth, meanwhile has faced the Orioles once in his career, earning a win in what was a tremendous start pitching six innings and only giving up one run during that outing.

The game between the Orioles and Nationals is set to start at 6:05 p.m. with fans catching all the action on the MASN Network.
