Orioles Sweep Rays to Currently Hold Second Place in American League East

Bust out the brooms for the Baltimore Orioles (5-3) who were able to complete a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays (4-6)  in a 5-1 victory at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. This sweep was a special one as this was the first three-game sweep for the Orioles in nearly two years.

Thus far the Orioles are in Second Place in what will be a very competitive American League East and hold the third best record in the league.  Confidence is soaring for the squad in general as things seem to be clicking on all cylinders.

Leading the way in the 5-1 victory was Renato Núñez and Hanser Alberto, who both had huge days at the plate. Nunez hit an absolute bomb in the Bottom of the Third Inning, to go along with a single in the Bottom of the Seventh. That Seventh Inning was a huge one for the Orioles who saw a double earlier in the frame from Alberto.

Reliefer Cole Sulser continues his fine performances on the mound for Baltimore, as the righty recorded his second six-out save in a span of a week.

Overall it seems as if the team is having a ton of fun on the field, as they seem to not be pressing and allowing for the hits to come in the moments when they most need it. One of the biggest differences from last season is the fact that the bullpen has been coming through for the team.

Sunday’s performance was just a small sampling of what the Pen has done so far, as the relivers were able to sit down 10 Rays as a group without walking a batter. The Orioles pitching staff was able to record double-digit strikeouts for the fifth consecutive game, which is a new club record. Shutting down the other teams is going to be something that will be huge for the team in general if they want to continue to compete in what is a very tough American League East.

The next game that was scheduled against the New York Yankees on August 5th is postponed as of now. Updates will be posted on what the team will do next.
