It is time to see what adjustments will be made as the New York Liberty (0-1) will look to rebound in their second game against the Dallas Wings (0-1) in a game set for 8;00 p.m. and scheduled to air on the CBS Sports Network.
Dallas is in a similar boat to New York as they are entering into the 2020 WNBA Season as one of the youngest teams in the league. In New York’s Season Opening loss to Seattle, Layshia Clarendon led all scorers with 20 points on the afternoon, which is tied for 7th in the WNBA scoring ranks (as of 7/27/20).
Clarendon has been making a huge impact for the Liberty thus far, shooting 10-12 (83.3%) from the charity stripe, which is tied with Atlanta’s Monique Billings for the league’s most free throw makes and attempts (as of 7/27/20). It’ll be a milestone moment for Layshia on Wednesday night as the guard is set to play in her 200th regular season WNBA Game.
New York was able to see some of their younger players shine against Seattle as five out of the Liberty’s seven rookies made their professional debuts against the Storm. The Liberty newcomers were able to combine for 34 points, which was led by Sabrina Ionescu’s 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Here are some other notable notes and things for fans to keep an eye on as the season progresses:
Amanda Zahui B – Approaching 100 WNBA career blocks, she currently has 94. Zahui also has 774 career points and 457 rebounds.
Kia Nurse – Currently sits at 777 total career points.
Kiah Stokes– Has 165 career blocks and is the franchise leader and single-game leader in blocks (8, vs. Connecticut 07/16/15)
