Exhibition season has been complete the next stop for the as the Baltimore Orioles as well as the rest of Major League Baseball is now regular season baseball. Let the hunt for the World Series Trophy begin, as the season is now days away before the start of the 2020 Major League Baseball season. This season is going to be an intense one filled with many surprises, potential prospects playing for their various teams and hopefully some overall wonderfully played baseball.
For the Orioles there is a ton to catch up on so let us get started. One of the biggest changes for Baltimore will be their Opening Day Starter as John Means will have to sit out from his scheduled start against the Boston Red Sox due to arm fatigue. This is the second consecutive year that the Opening Day starter has changed due to a last-second injury.
Thankfully for Baltimore they have such a wonderful depth in their pitching rotation this year, that manager Brandon Hyde has plenty of choices when it comes time for starters for Friday’s Opener against the Red Sox.
Hyde will be calling upon pitcher Tommy Milone to start against Boston, while also keeping the rest of the Orioles rotation in tact. This means that Alex Cobb is scheduled to start the second game on Saturday and Wade LeBlanc will start the series finale on Sunday
Milone who has had nine-years experience in Major League Baseball, this will be his first taste of starting on Opening Day and a well earned one as well. The southpaw holds a 50-47 overall record with a 4.47 ERA in his career, having bolstered the rotation for the Minnesota Twins, the Oakland Athletics, the Washington Nationals in addition to three other clubs. Milone had signed a Minor League Deal with Baltimore in February and was able to earn a back-end of the rotation spot thanks to his outstanding performances.
Arm Fatigue is going to be something the Orioles are going to have to watch for as reports are saying that thus far Hunter Harvey is going to be getting some extended rest from the team for the exact same reason. This is one of many challenges facing the team this season.
For the fans of the team there were two really exciting performances from Alex Cobb and Anthony Santander in the exhibition against the Nationals. Cobb was able to do a really great job on the mound against Washington, while Santander was able to collect hits against the always tough Stephen Strasburg.
The countdown is now on as the team will be schedule to travel to Fenway Park this Friday to take on the Boston Red Sox at 7:30 p.m. Let the hunt for the World Series Trophy begin.
