Lots to look forward to for upcoming 2020 Season for the New York Mets

Excitement is starting to build for the New York Mets and there is so much to look forward to in the upcoming 2020 season. Here are some of the updates from the team as they are building up to their first away game of the season against the Atlanta Braves this Friday (7/24).

One of the biggest changes for all of the National League this season is the idea of the Designated Hitter rule being used, this means that the Mets offensive contributions are about to get way more interesting. Set to take the role will be Yoenis Cespedes, who combined with the likes of Pete Alonso, Michael Conforto, Amed Rosario to just name a few that will give the opposing pitchers a headache this upcoming season.

Cespedes has always had a tremendous eye holding a career .274/.328/.498 hitter over seven seasons with the A’s, Red Sox, Tigers and Mets, Céspedes hit .282/.346/.543 with 74 home runs in 308 games with New York from 2015-18. Yoenis will be a huge key to the Mets and them having a great season, and it’ll be interesting to see if less time off the field will help with his offensive production.

According to reports New York is set to have a tremendous catching rotation in place as Wilson Ramos, Tomás Nido, and René Rivera may all have a shot to see time with the team this season.

Scheduled to make the Opening Day start for the Mets will be the two-time reigning National League Cy Young Award winner  Jacob deGrom who according to reports had a 13-pitch bullpen session Tuesday at Citi Field.

In the heartbreaking news department Jed Lowrie, who had been batting so hard to see time with the team in 2020, has been placed on the injured list. Hopefully now Lowrie will have the time that he needs to recover so that he will be able to bring in some great numbers and play for the Mets in 2021 and beyond.

It is going to be an exciting time overall for the Mets this season and will be really interesting to see how the offense plays out this season. Manager Luis Rojas has got to be excited by the many offensive weapons to choose from, combine that with some great arms from the pitching staff and you got to hope that New York will be one of the teams in the last few spots for that Playoff position this season.
