Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

With this Corona Virus putting everything on hold many people have to make some really tough decisions especially when it comes time for their health.

Recently one such decision came from Mets Right Handed Pitcher Noah Syndergaard who is going to undergo ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery “Tommy John surgery” on his right elbow. Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek will perform the surgery on Thursday, March 26 at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

“After experiencing discomfort in his elbow before Spring Training was suspended due to the pandemic, Noah and our health and performance department have been in constant contact,” said Executive Vice President and General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen. “Based on the persistence of his symptoms, Noah underwent a physical examination and MRI that revealed the ligament tear. A second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache confirmed the diagnosis and the recommendation for surgery. Noah is an incredibly hard worker and a tremendous talent. While this is unfortunate, we have no doubt that Noah will be able to return to full strength and continue to be an integral part of our Championship pursuits in the future.”

It maybe good that Noah is going for this surgical procedure now, as it would give the starter some time to recover and take care of himself. The Mets as a whole along with every other Major League Baseball organization are really taking their time to see what is going to happen next with this Corona Virus outbreak as many teams are wondering what the fate of baseball season will be.

This is a huge blow to the Mets starting pitching rotation, but may also allow for one of the young arms to step up and show what they can do for the Club until Syndergarrd makes his triumphant return.
