New England Black Wolves Stung by the Swarm in OT

New England fell to the Georgia SwarmG 11-10 in its second overtime game in two weeks. The Black Wolves are now 4-1 on the season while the Swarm improve to 3-3.

Coming out of the first quarter the score was tied, 2-2. Rookie Andrew Kew opened up the scoring on the afternoon, putting New England up 1-0. Shayne Jackson and Lyle Thompson found the back of the net twice for Georgia to take a 2-1 lead. Tony Malcom hit a goal in transition to tie the score for the second straight game.

The Black Wolves grabbed another lead with a goal to open the second quarter. A game of catch between the rookie, Kew and the veteran, Callum Crawford set Crawford up with an open lane to the net and a 3-2 advantage for the Pack. The Swarm answered back with three straight goals.

New England’s defense proved to be resilient against the Swarm’s pressure throughout the contest. A steal on the backend led to a Creighton Reid breakaway goal on the other side of the turf. This is the defender’s first goal this season and 26th of his career.

At the half way mark, Georgia led New England, 5-4. Doug Jamieson had tallied 18 saves while his team had recorded 24 shots. Georgia’s goalkeeper Mike Poulin stopped 20 shots while his team fired off 23 shots.

The second half proved to be a battle as both teams went on to exchange scoring runs. Reilly O’Connor opened up the third quarter with a goal for New England to even things up at five apiece. L. Thompson snagged his second goal of the game and put Georgia back up, 6-5.

What would have been a five-goal run by the Black Wolves was interrupted by a goal from Georgia’s Jackson. Crawford and Jordan Durston grabbed the first two of New England’s scoring stint and Stephan Leblanc, Colton Watkinson and Kew finished it off. Leblanc, Kew, Crawford, O’Connor, Brett Manney, Joe Resetarits each had a hand in one or more of the goals during the hot streak.

The Swarm again, were able to counteract the run with three goals of their own, making the score 10-10 at the end of regulation.

In a suspenseful overtime frame, both teams applied the pressure on the offensive side of the ball. The two opponents went on to exchange shots but Miles Thompson was able to slip one past Jamieson in the net to secure the 11-10 overtime win.

For the contest, Jamieson finished with 44 saves on 55 shots on goal. The Black Wolves tallied 47 shots, 62 loose balls and five caused turnovers. Joe Nardella and Adam Bomberry, back in the mix for the Pack’s defense, led the team with 11 and 10 loose balls, respectively. On the faceoff X, Nardella went 18 for 23.

Poulin recorded 37 saves on 47 New England shots. The rest of the Swarm recorded 55 shots, 79 loose balls and 11 caused turnovers. Jordan MacIntosh took the majority of faceoffs for Georgia but only came up successful 32% of the time.
