Sky Blue FC Acquires McCall Zerboni from North Carolina Courage

Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has acquired veteran midfielder McCall Zerboni and a conditional pick in the 2021 NWSL draft from North Carolina Courage in exchange for the rights to Hailie Mace.

Zerboni, 33, joins Sky Blue FC after three seasons with the Courage, winning three consecutive NWSL Shields and back-to-back NWSL championships in 2018 and 2019. She finished the 2019 regular season with 24 appearances (19 starts), playing 1,716 minutes and recording one assist.

“We are ecstatic to welcome McCall to Sky Blue,” said Sky Blue Head Coach Freya Coombe. “She’s a highly decorated player in the league who adds quality and experience to our midfield. As a proven winner, we know she has the right mentality to help us succeed.”

A staple in the midfield, Zerboni played 65 regular season games in the last three years for North Carolina, registering 5,487 minutes, six goals, and three assists. In 2018, she earned NWSL Team of the Month honors four consecutive times and was a NWSL MVP finalist. She also was named to the NWSL’s Best XI in 2017 and 2018.

Zerboni started her NWSL career at Western New York Flash in 2013 and later joined the Portland Thorns for the 2015 season. In 2016, she signed with the Boston Breakers, playing in eight games before returning to the Flash for the rest of the season.

Zerboni earned her first international cap with the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2017 when the U.S. hosted Korea Republic. In 2018, Zerboni was called up to the USWNT Tournament of the Nations and for friendlies against Chile, logging 254 minutes for the year.

Sky Blue FC will be kicking off its inaugural season at Red Bull Arena in 2020 with Season Ticket Memberships on sale now at SkyBlueFC.com.
