Hofstra Returns Home Riding Five-Game Win Streak

The Hofstra men’s basketball team will look to continue its winning ways when the Pride returns home to face William & Mary on Thursday in the team’s first home Colonial Athletic Association contest of the season.

Tip-off from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex is slated for 7 p.m. Speaking of the Mack Sports Complex, Thursday marks the exact 20-year anniversary of the first game played at the venue. On January 2, 2000, the Hofstra basketball program moved into the then-5,023-seat Hofstra Arena, which was renamed the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex in 2006. In the first game in the building’s history, the men’s basketball program defeated Boston University, 74-46, as Craig Elliott “Speedy” Claxton led Hofstra with 19 points, Norm Richardson added 17, and Danny Walker chipped in with 15.

Hofstra pushed its win streak to five games with a 75-67 victory over Towson on Monday in its last contest. The Pride will take an 11-4 overall mark and a 2-0 CAA record into Thursday’s encounter with William & Mary.

The Tribe is 9-5 overall and 1-0 in the league after opening up conference play with a 74-73 win over Elon on Monday.

One of the more entertaining rivalries in the CAA since the Pride joined the league in 2001, Hofstra and William & Mary have met 34 times entering Thursday’s meeting with the Pride holding a 21-13 advantage in the series. Hofstra has won three straight in the series, but these teams have teamed up for some epic games over the years including a triple overtime contest in Williamsburg a year ago and back-to-back meetings in the semifinals of the CAA Championship in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
