The National Lacrosse League has been trying to crack the New York Sports market for a while. Once upon a time the NLL had a franchise in the New York Titans (2006) that played at Madison Square Garden, but the response was never what the League, nor the owners were hoping for.
This time around though will be different as the League decided to expand and have a franchise in a place that is considered to be one of the birthplaces for Lacrosse in Long Island.
The League decided to award the newly named Riptide to GF Sports, who is has established themselves as a great company for live events as well as a sports media entertainment company.
New York has a tremendous history when it comes time for the National Lacrosse League, as the State is the birthplace of current NLL Stars like Tom Schreiber and the Thompson Brothers, and tied to lacrosse Icons such as the Gait Brothers. The Riptide will join the Major League Lacrosse franchise the New York Lizards in trying to get more eyes and fans to check out what is a truly amazing sport to watch.
Thus far the season has started off on a rough note for the Riptide, as they had two tough road losses to Halifax and Vancouver. Scoring the first ever goal in Riptide history was Tyson Gibson, who was the No 1 Pick in the 2019 NLL Entry Draft.
The Riptide Roster consist of team captains as Veteran defenseman Dan MacRae, Jon Ranagan and Tyler Digby will help lead the team throughout the year. There are a ton of exciting players to watch that include Andrew Suitor. Suitor is the type of player that lacrosse fans love to watch as he brings a toughness on loose balls, as well as being a gritty locker room guy for the team.
Jake Fox is another that fans should keep an eye out for, as his size and speed will impress the fans in attendance. To round out what is an amazing roster the all important face-off specalist Alex Woodall is key to getting the momentum going for the Riptide.
