Hofstra (1-1) picked up its first win of the season on Saturday as the Pride dominated Monmouth to the tune of a 94-74 rout of the Hawks. It was a total team effort for Hofstra as the Pride placed six players in double figures for the first time since a win over Stony Brook on December 13, 2016. Seniors Desure Buie and Eli Pemberton each led the way with 17 points, while Buie posted eight assists as well. Senior Tareq Coburn posted 11 points and 12 rebounds for his third career double-double.
Pemberton is leading the way through two games as he is averaging 20 points per outing, while Coburn is nearly average a double-double with 11.5 points and nine rebounds per contest. Buie has averaged 15 points and 7.5 assists per outing.
Bucknell is also 1-1 to start the year, having played a pair of close games. The Bison opened with a four-point win over Fairfield last Tuesday and most recently dropped a 66-63 decision to Vermont on Sunday. John Meeks is averaging 17.5 points for Bucknell, while Bruce Moore is second with 15.5 per outing.
Wednesday will mark the 30th all-time meeting between Hofstra and Bucknell, in a series that began way back in 1955-56. The Pride captured the first meeting, 88-62, but the Bison lead the series 19-10. Despite having met 29 times in the series, the two squads have not met since a 68-60 Bucknell win at the South Florida Shootout in 2001-02.
