New York City FC Captures Huge 2-1 Victory over San Jose at Yankee Stadium

On a perfect day in the Bronx, NY the New York City FC earn a huge 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquake in Major league Soccer Action at Yankee Stadium. With this victory NYCFC has now clinched Home Field advantage for their MLS Playoff games.

Both teams are entering from some long stretches of soccer, but it was San Jose who looked good early as Major League Soccer’s all-time leading goalscorer Chris Wondolowski who opened up the scoring at the 20′ mark.  New York City FC, as they have always done throughout their history kept battling and kept to the game plan of Head Coach Domènec Torrent, as they were able to tie up the game before the whistle blue for the start of the halftime break.

It was at the 40′ minute that Keaton Parks was able to record his first MLS goal by tearing up the midifield and attempting to set-up his teammate Gary Mackay-Steven. As the attempt by Steven was dribbling away from the Earthquake cage Parks struck fast and quick to notch up the game at 1-1. For Parks he has been playing brilliant for Torrent and NYCFC as he has been able to drop back as a defending midfielder or to stride up and create chances.

Three Minutes later the Boys in Blue were able to secure Yankee Stadium as the location for the MLS Playoffs, via a beautiful goal by Alexandru Mitriță, making the final tally 2-1. Things got extremely physical and tough as the minutes ticked down, and both teams were able to create some amazing opportunities, but New York City and their amazing defense were able to stand their ground and secure the clutch victory on this day. As always stellar in the cage for NYCFC was keeper Sean Johnson who made some stellar stops during the course of the game.

Up next for New York City FC will be a tough road game against FC Dallas on September 22 for the team’s first meeting of the season. The next time the Boys in Blue will return back to Yankee Stadium will be three days later as they will take on Atlanta United for the final home game of the regular season.
