Brooklyn Blast Tri-City as they enter into the All-Star Break

The Brooklyn Cyclones (35-27) blasted their way into the Tri-City ValleyCats (25-37) to a 5-0 victory on 8/19 at MCU Park, the Cyclones are still holding the top spot in the New York-Penn League Wild Card chase-though things are very tight. Now the league will now enjoy the celebration of the best-of-the-best of the New York-Penn League, as the All-Star break has arrived, and will be right in the New York City area as the Cyclones Rival the Staten Island Yankees will play host to the celebrations.

Prior to going into the All-Star game the Cyclones offense struck first in the Bottom of the Fist Inning, as a sacrifice double play by Luke Ritter plated the first run of the game. Jose Mena doubled to left field, to turn the offense up in the Bottom of the Second.

Brooklyn’s Bats exploded in the Bottom of the Fourth Inning and the Bottom of the Sixth as homers by Gavin Garay and Jose Mena, helped to secure the Cyclones victory. On the hill Nate Jones, Corey Gaconi, Hunter Parsons, and Josh Hejka combined to shut out Tri-City, limiting the ValleyCats to five hits and recording 10 strikeouts.

The Cyclones now begin the two-day All-Star break. Brooklyn will have five representatives in the NYPL’s Midsummer Classic: Garrison Bryant, Matt Cleveland, Joe Genord, Mitch Ragan, and Wilmer Reyes.The Cyclones’ Coaching and training staff will lead the NYPL Blue Team. 

Cyclones Manager Edgardo Alfonzo, who now has 99 wins as the manager with the team will be ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange today as a part of the New York-Penn League Ceremonies.

Brooklyn saw some outstanding defense especially from Center Fielder Jake Mangum, who had two quality ESPN web gems in the game. Mangum, who was drafted in the Fourth Round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Mississippi State is currently batting .252 for the Clones with 14 RBI and showing some incredible defensive play throughout the season.

Now the team and the league will enjoy the All-Star break, while most will take the opportunity to enjoy the New York area and heal up, others will participate in the festivities that are being held at Richmond County Bank Ballpark tomorrow.

The Cyclones will return to regular season action on Thursday with the game scheduled for 5:05 p.m.  Brooklyn will have RHP Frank Valentino on the hill (1-3, 3.80).
