Keeping the Core Together, Whale Re-sign Hughson

First-year Connecticut general manager Bray Ketchum continues to build her team around skilled and dedicated players who proudly represent the Whale. Today, Ketchum re-signed forward Sarah Hughson.

“Sarah is someone every coach wants on their team,” said Ketchum. “She brings energy and positivity on and off the ice. Her teammates speak very highly of her and we are excited to watch her excel this season.”

Hughson played 12 games in her rookie NWHL season in 2018-19, after four years at Elmira College. As a senior, the 5-4 forward was 28-21-49 in 30 games and named to the 2018 AHCA Division III East All-American First Team.

“There isn’t a team I would rather be a part of and I’m pumped to see what Danbury has in store for us,” said Hughson, referring to the team’s new home, Danbury Arena. “Playing in the NWHL allows me to compete with and against some of the best players and people in the sport, and to be able to reach out and inspire young athletes with the same dreams I had at their age. I am so excited to enter my second season with the Whale and the NWHL”!

Besides playing for the Whale, the Connecticut native is an assistant coach of Choate Rosemary Hall’s varsity girls ice hockey and lacrosse teams.
