Hofstra MBB: Mihalich, Wright-Foreman And Pemberton Honored By MBWA

Three members of the Hofstra Men’s Basketball program were honored by the Met Basketball Writers Association as Head Coach Joe Mihalich was named the All-Met Co-Coach of the Year, senior Justin Wright-Foreman was named to the All-Met First Team and junior Eli Pemberton garnered All-Met Second Team accolades.

The trio will be honored tomorrow night at the 86th NIT/MBWA All-Met Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York.

Mihalich led Hofstra to a school-record 27 wins this past season and the Pride advanced to the National Invitation Tournament.

During the magical 2018-19 season, Mihalich led the Pride to the first-ever outright regular season Colonial Athletic Association crown in program history and Hofstra had a spectacular 16-game win streak along the way. He was named the CAA Coach of the Year for his efforts, becoming the first Hofstra coach to earn that honor since the Pride joined the CAA in 2001-02.

He also earned a slew of other coaching accolades as he was named the United States Basketball Writers Association District II Coach of the Year, the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 10 Coach of the Year and a finalist for the College Insider’s Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award and the Hugh Durham Coach of the Year Award.

Wright-Foreman finished second nationally in scoring this season with 27.1 points per game. He closed his career with 2,327 points and ranks second all-time at Hofstra behind Charles Jenkins (2,513). Wright-Foreman concluded his career by scoring in double figures in 88 consecutive games, the seventh-longest streak in the history of NCAA Division I.

Wright-Foreman earned a slew of accolades this season as he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and also captured 14 different weekly awards during the regular season. He was also named a finalist for the Jerry West Award as the nation’s top shooting guard, the United States Basketball Writers Association District II Player of the Year, the Eastern College Athletic Conference Player of the Year well as first team honors from the CAA and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He also earned Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American honors.

It was an outstanding year for Pemberton, who was rewarded with second team honors after posting 15.0 points per game during the season. Strong in all areas of the game, he added 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and nearly a steal a game while picking up a pair of weekly awards this year. Pemberton ranked 14th in the CAA in scoring and currently has 1,383 career points to rank 14th all-time in Hofstra history heading into his senior campaign.

Pemberton was also a second team All-CAA selection following the regular season.
