Hofstra MBB Heads To Drexel Looking To Clinch Share Of Regular Season Title

The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will look to clinch at least a share of the regular season Colonial Athletic Association title on Thursday when it heads to Drexel.

Tip-off from the Daskalaskis Athletic Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.

There will be Pride Productions live video/audio of the game as well as live statistics. Links to all three can be found on this page as well as on the men’s basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. The video broadcast is supplied by Drexel, while the audio only broadcast is courtesy of WRHU (88.7 FM).

Hofstra will take a stellar 23-6 overall record and a 13-3 CAA mark into the meeting against the Dragons. The Pride has a one-game lead over Northeastern with two games remaining in the regular season.

The Pride played a pair of overtime games last week, earning a 91-82 double overtime victory over Towson on Thursday before dropping a 104-99 overtime decision to James Madison on Saturday. Senior Justin Wright-Foreman posted 33 points against the Dukes on Saturday, while senior Desure Buie dished out 12 assists. It marked the most assists for a Pride player since Juan’ya Green had 12 at Delaware on February 13, 2016.

Wright-Foreman is one of three members of the Pride averaging double figures with 26.6 points per game, while junior Eli Pemberton is second with 15.5 points per game and Buie ranks third with 10.8 per contest. Graduate student Jacquil Taylor leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per game and is also contributing 8.2 points per game. Buie is tops on the squad with 160 assists and 73 steals. Buie moved into 10th all-time at Hofstra in assists as he now has 326. He passed Antoine Agudio, who had 317 from 2004-08.

Drexel is 13-16 overall and 7-9 in league play following a 68-60 win over Delaware on Saturday. Five different Dragons are averaging double figures, led by Troy Harper with 15.8 points per game and Alihan Demir with 14.6 points per game. James Butler leads the team with 8.3 rebounds per game, while Camren Wynter has dished out 152 assists and has 39 steals to lead Drexel in both categories.

Hofstra is 42-46 all-time against Drexel in a series that began during the 1958-59 campaign. Hofstra won the first-ever meeting, 70-64, in the Middle Atlantic Championships. Heading into Thursday’s game, the Hofstra/Drexel series ranks as the Pride’s second-most played opponent all-time as the two schools have met 88 times. Hofstra has only faced one team more as the Pride has met Delaware 89 times. Hofstra has won four straight games in the series, including an 89-75 victory over the Dragons back on December 30 in Hempstead. Wright-Foreman had 34 points in that game, while Buie added 15 points and 10 assists.
