New York Cosmos Add Versatile David Diosa

The New York Cosmos announced the signing of David Diosa.

The 26-year old has plenty of history with the club, having scored the first academy goal in 2010. He then joined the first team during the club’s reboot season in the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 2013, going on to spend five seasons with the Cosmos.

“I’m really happy to return home and play for the club I will always have love for,” Diosa said. “I’m excited to play again for the most historic team in the U.S. and to play in front of my family and the fans.”

Diosa is capable at slotting into several different positions on the pitch, having played as a fullback, a midfielder, and forward during his previous stint with the club. He made his professional debut with the Cosmos as a substitute in a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2013. He went on to play for the club 40 times, scoring four goals.

He was most recently with Real Monarchs of the United Soccer League (USL).

“At the Cosmos, we always talk about how it’s a family and we’re pleased to welcome back David for this season,” Senior Vice President Joe Barone said. “He’s a player that has grown up in the organization, won championships with us, and his versatility on the field will be important as we take part in multiple competitions this year.”

“David is another Cosmos Academy product and someone who has played with the first team before,” head coach Carlos Mendes said. “We are excited to have him back. He understands what this club is all about and how we want to play, so we believe he is another vital piece added to our roster.”

More info on the team and 2019 NPSL Founders Cup will be announced at a later date.
