Hofstra MBB Heads South For Key Road Swing

The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will head south for a pair of key Colonial Athletic Association contests, beginning with Thursday’s game at Charleston. The Pride will also face UNCW on Saturday.

Tip-off from TD Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

There will be Pride Productions live video, audio and statistics of the game, with links available on this page and on the men’s basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. The video broadcast is via Charleston, while the audio only broadcast is courtesy of WRHU (88.7 FM).

Hofstra improved to a stellar 21-4 overall and 11-1 in league play with a 93-87 victory over William & Mary on Saturday. Senior Justin Wright-Foreman had another virtuoso performance for the Pride in the game as he scored 48 points on 16-24 shooting to carry the Pride to the win. The scoring total marked a career-high, a David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex record, a CAA conference game record and is the fourth-highest total in NCAA Division I this season. He was assisted in the game by graduate student Jacquil Taylor with 11 points and 15 rebounds for his third double-double this season.

Wright-Foreman upped his scoring average to 26.0 points per game, while Taylor is now averaging 7.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per outing. Senior Desure Buie leads the Pride with 5.0 assists and 2.4 steals per game, while Taylor has blocked a team-best 39 shots this year.

Charleston is 20-6 overall and 9-4 in CAA action after a narrow 86-84 win over Drexel on Saturday. Jarrell Brantley had 22 points to lead the Cougars, while Grant Riller posted 19 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Riller leads Charleston with 21.2 points and 4.0 assists per game, while Brantley is second in scoring (18.5) and leads the way in rebounding (7.9).

The match-up will pit two teams with two of the highest scoring duos in the nation. Hofstra’s duo of Wright-Foreman and junior Eli Pemberton (15.0) rank fifth nationally with a combined 41.0 points per game. Riller and Brantley rank eighth in the nation with 39.7 points per game combined.

Hofstra is 5-6 all-time against Charleston with all 11 previous meetings occurring since the Cougars joined the CAA in 2013-14. Charleston had won four straight in the series before the Pride earned an 86-72 victory in Hempstead back on January 19. Pemberton led Hofstra with 26 points in that contest.
