No 15 Penn State cruises to a 5-2 victory over Michigan at MSG

The No 15 Penn State Lions roared early and often in the 5-2 victory over Michigan in a thrilling College Ice Hockey game at Madison Square Garden. Playing in front of 9,271 energetic fans at ‘The World Most Famous Arena,’ both Penn State and Michigan played with heart, grit, passion and emotion.

For Penn State they opened the scoring early with a 3-0 lead in the First Period with goals by Evan Barratt, Liam Folks and Alec Marsh. The Nittany Lions were able to stay aggressive offensively even though Michigan was able to hold a 36-17 shots attempted advantage in that frame.

One could see how loose Penn State was playing on the ice, while Michigan was applying too much pressure on themselves and could not outshoot the mistakes they were making on the ice.

Michigan did finally get rewarded for their effort in the Second Period as Luke Morgan tallied a goal at the 2:51 mark that was assisted by Jake Slaker and Quinn Hughes. Penn State added to their lead with a goal by Alex Limoges on a shorthanded goal at the 9:08 mark.

The Wolverines finished the game on a strong point with a goal by Will Lockwood at the 3:27 mark.

It was an amazing experience for both Penn State and Michigan. Especially for the players from Michigan who were able to come to New York City and experience all the amazing historical moments, and monuments and sights for the first time. Both teams were able to enjoy a nice stay, while also balancing practicing and getting ready for the big game today.

Up next for the Penn State Nittany Lions will be a home game against Minnesota on Feb 8th, with the face-off scheduled for 8:00 pm. As for Michigan they will be on the road to take on Minnesota on Feb. 2nd.
