New York Jets Post Game Notes & Quotes – NYJ 42, IND 34 – Sunday, 10.14

Here are some notes from the New York Jets 42-34 victory over the Indianapolis Colts at MetLife Stadium:

Scoring:

After scoring 42 points in today’s game, the Jets have now scored 40 points twice in the same season for the first time since 2008. Additionally, this is the Jets first time they have scored at least 30 points in back-to-back games since the 2011 season. The Jets offense closed the game with scores on their last eight drives. The team scored multiple times in every quarter, including a 23-point first half, the most by a Jets team since they scored 27 vs. TEN (12/13/15).

Takeaways:

After forcing four takeaways against IND, the Jets are the only team with multiple games of four-or-more takeaways, after intercepting five passes in their Week One win at DET (9/10).  This season, their 15 turnovers are second in the league behind CLV prior to the start of the 4:00 games.

Additionally, the Jets converted those four takeaways into 20 points, tying them for the most points off turnovers in the NFL with 45 points, prior to the start of the 4:00 games.

Linebacker Interceptions:

With picks by Avery Williamson and Darron Lee, Sunday’s contest marks just the fourth time since the merger and first time since 2011 that two different Jets linebackers registered interceptions in the same game. The last time, David Harris and Calvin Pace both registered interceptions at BUF (11/06/11).

S Jamal Adams:

On the Jets first defensive drive of the game, Jamal Adams tipped a pass that led to an interception by CB Morris Claiborne, which he returned 17 yards for a touchdown. During the second quarter, Adams forced a fumble (third of his career) that was recovered by LB Jordan Jenkins.

CB Morris Claiborne:

With 14:48 left in the first quarter, S Jamal Adams tipped a pass that was intercepted and returned for a 17-yard touchdown by CB Morris Claiborne. Jets second pick six this season after LB Darron Lee’s at DET (9/10) in the season opener. The return marks Claiborne’s first touchdown off an interception, and the second touchdown of his career.

At 14:48, the score was the fastest in a home game and fastest defensive score in Jets history. It’s tied for second-fastest touchdown in franchise history with Brad Smith kick-off return touchdown at PIT (12/19/10). Fastest score: Bobby Humphery kick-off return touchdown at 14:51 at CIN (12/21/86).

The score was the first at home by the Jets since S Antonio Allen picked off Tom Brady (10/20/13). In the second quarter, Claiborne tipped a pass that was intercepted by teammate Avery Williamson for a 31-yard return. Claiborne finished the game with four tackles, two passes defensed and one interception.

QB Sam Darnold:

In his sixth start, Sam Darnold finished the game 24-30 for 280 yards and two touchdowns. It is the second time in Darnold’s career in which he has completed at least 75% of his passes while having a quarterback rating of more than 100.

With his 80% completion percentage on 30-or-more passes, he became just the fifth quarterback in team history to accomplish the feat and first since Chad Pennington did so at TEN (12/23/07).

WR Jermaine Kearse:

Jermaine Kearse established season highs with nine receptions for 94 yards in the win. The nine catches match his regular-season career high, set last season in the win vs. KC (12/03/17).
