Rebecca Allen and the Chemist Warehouse Australian Opals downed Turkey, 90-64, sweeping its way through group phase B to secure a 2018 FIBA World Cup quarterfinals berth. The Opals have now poured in an average of 86.7 points through their three games played and average a 28.3-point margin of victory.
Australia dominated from tipoff shooting an astounding 64.7-percent in the opening frame and 69.0-percent in the second quarter. Turkey shot just 37.1-percent for the match. By the intermission, Australia controlled Turkey by 20 and for the next two quarters, Turkey failed to fill inch any closer.
Today, Allen was the second-leading scorer sinking 45.4-percent of her looks for 13 points. Her four rebounds and three helpers were both good for third highest on the team. The New York Liberty stretch four averages 9.0 points, 5.0 boards and distributes 3.3 assists in this year’s World Cup.
Australia’s winning ways grants it a two-day rest. During that time, its quarterfinal opponent will be determined, and both will matchup Friday, September 28.
