New York Liberty Partnership with Abbott House a Slam Dunk for the Community

On a steamy Thursday afternoon, players along with the members of the front office staff of the New York Liberty went to the Abbott House to bring smiles on the faces of some very strong children and even the staff that are involved with an incredible organization.

The Abbott House is a place that assists human beings recover from deep trauma, by building lasting foundations to support children, families and adults with couples needs.

It was the first ever community related event for the New York Liberty, and it was a smashing success, as dancing, singing, celebrating and a overall good time was had by all that were involved with the day.

The team got to participate in a tour of the Abbott House, while also holding a clinic that had approximately 50 kids ages 10-15 participating in learning the basic fundamental skills of basketball.

The ladies also interacted with everyone at the House, gave out autographs, and even shared their experiences on their journey to the WNBA level and making to the New York Liberty, while being inspired by the stories of those within the Abbott House.

Stories of children entering the United States from other countries, receiving the training necessary to become a part of society again. There are also children and teens who need additional support or who have not yet been matched with a foster family. The Abbott House helps these amazing youth learn how to apply for College; accessing community resources; make interpersonal relationships with others and learn skills like home management, food management and life coaching.

In the end it was a day of escape, joy and laughter for all involved as the Liberty were able to make an impact and positively influence and inspire those at the Abbott House to go after their dreams. The best part is this won’t be the last meeting for the Liberty and those that were a part of the program, as everyone was able to get tickets to cheer the team on in the upcoming season.

The Liberty will begin their 2018 season with a road trip to the Chicago Sky, before playing at the Westchester County Center for the first time on Friday, May 25, as they will host the Minnesota Lynx for a 7:30 p.m. game.
